Student News
Attention students, there will be an SCA Forum TODAY at 2:00 in the auditorium. We will be discussing Millbrook Fights Cancer Week. See you there! 


ATTENTION Senior Class Officers: There will be a short meeting immediately after school on Wednesday 1/9 in room 402. Please see Mrs. Lingo or Ms. Martin if you cannot attend. 


Project ASK is the FBLA State Service Project. ASK, Association for the Support of Children with Cancer, is a non-profit association of parents, health professionals, and concerned citizens throughout Virginia. FBLA’s support of Project ASK allows the organization to conduct diagnostic research and serve as a support group for families of children with cancer. FBLA will be collecting donations in all business classes for Project ASK through Wednesday January 17.  The class that collects the most money will receive a PRIZE. 


What is Cooperative Education?
 
A structured method of instruction combining classroom-based education with on-the-job training experiences to help students prepare for or explore their occupational objectives. It is paid employment directly related to the classroom instruction at Millbrook and provides credit toward graduation for the job experience.
 
·        Links the employer and the school in an effort to assist students in becoming well-rounded citizens and employees
·        Teaches students about the business/industry community
·        Provides businesses/industries with well-trained employees
·        Creates a strong partnership between schools and the business/industry world

See any Business teacher if you are interested in applying for the Cooperative Education Program for the 2019-20 school year.  




Club News
FBLA members: We will be putting together a beach themed basket for the Cancer Week Silent Auction.  Please bring your beach item donations to room 437 by Monday January 14. You will receive FBLA points for donating.  


Any DECA members competing at Districts must have a field trip form turned in to Mrs. Stover by today. If you do not have your field trip form turned in you will not be able to attend the competition. See Mrs. Stover or Mr. Pendleton with any questions!


Congrats to the following writers/artists/poets whose work was chosen for our inaugural poetry slam: Alona Harris, Madison Lazenby, Furoair Qulizada, Kayla Kephart, Meghan McAndrew, Brenden O'Donnell, Adam Lorfink, and Hannah Ostopowicz. Please see Mr. Griffis for information one the next steps for your performances.


Forensics Game Night
The MHS Forensics Team is sponsoring a Board Game Night at the Winchester Book Gallery located in the downtown walking mall at  7 N Loudoun Street. It is from 6-8 on Friday, January 11. There will be snacks, prizes, and fun games to play like Jenga, Monopoly, Pandemic, Scattergories, Guess Who, card games, and many, many more. Anyone is welcome to come (especially anyone interested in joining the team)! Bring your friends, have fun, and show some love to your local bookstore.

Guidance News
Attention current 11th grade students!  Course registration for the 2019-2020 school year will begin TODAY.  Registration dates are today, 1/10, and 1/11.  You will be registering with your counselor during your English classes.  You will be using your chromebook, so please make sure you bring it to your English class and it is fully charged.


ASVAB score sheets are now here at Millbrook.  If you took the ASVAB in November, please come to guidance to get your scores.


Attention Seniors:  
Have you or are you planning to apply to Virginia Tech?  Do you have a 3.8 GPA or higher?  If so, please come to the Guidance Office and give your name to Mrs. Jones, the Guidance Secretary.  Millbrook will be submitting one nominee for the Virginia Tech Pamplin Leadership Award.  Submit your name to the Guidance Office in order to be considered for this award.


Potomac State will be in Guidance on Thursday Jan. 10th from 11-1, please stop by Guidance for a pass to attend.


Students who took the PSAT in October may attend an informational score report session on January 14th at 9:30 in the auditorium.  Please check into your 2nd block class for attendance and then promptly report to the room.  At this session you will get your score report and your test booklet.  We will review the score report as well as discuss next steps.  Student who do not attend may pick up their materials in guidance Jan. 15th - 17th.
